Homemade Cayenne Pepper Salve (Extra Potent)
Ingredients:
8 tablespoons cayenne pepper powder (preferably organic)
1 cup (8 oz) olive oil (extra virgin or cold-pressed)
1 oz (approx. 2 tablespoons) beeswax (optional, for thickening)
Optional: a few drops of essential oil (like ginger, peppermint, or clove for additional warmth and scent)
Instructions:
Infuse the Oil:
In a double boiler or a heat-safe glass jar in a saucepan, combine olive oil and cayenne pepper.
Heat gently on low heat (ideally below 120°F / 49°C) for 2–3 hours, stirring occasionally.
Do not overheat — the goal is to extract the capsaicin without degrading it or burning the oil.
Strain:
After infusing, strain through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth while warm.
Be careful — cayenne oil can burn skin and eyes. Wear gloves and avoid touching your face.
Add Beeswax (optional):
Return strained oil to heat.
Add 1 oz of beeswax and stir until fully melted.
Remove from heat and add essential oils if using.
Pour and Store:
Pour into clean, dry containers (glass jars or tins).
Allow to cool and solidify.
Store in a cool, dark place. Shelf life: ~6–12 months.
Usage:
Apply a small amount to sore muscles, joints, or arthritic areas.
Start with a patch test — this is very strong and may irritate sensitive skin.
Use gloves for application to avoid spreading it to eyes or sensitive areas.
⚠️ Cautions:
Do not use on broken or sensitive skin.
Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, and pets.
Wash hands thoroughly after use, or wear gloves.
Not suitable for children or during pregnancy without professional advice.
