Homemade Doughnuts ππ
Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons butter (softened)
7 g bakerβs yeast (1 packet active dry yeast)
5 tablespoons sugar
1 cup warm milk
1 egg
Β½ teaspoon salt
Oil for frying
Optional Toppings
Powdered sugar
Cinnamon sugar
Chocolate glaze
Jam or cream filling
Instructions
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, mix the warm milk with 1 tablespoon of sugar and the yeast.
Let it sit for 5β10 minutes until foamy.
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, combine:
Flour
Remaining sugar
Salt
Add:
Egg
Butter
Yeast mixture
Mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead
Knead the dough for about 8β10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
If sticky, add a little flour.
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1β1Β½ hours or until doubled in size.
Shape the Doughnuts
Roll out the dough to about Β½-inch thickness.
Cut into doughnut shapes using a cutter or glass.
Place on a tray and cover lightly.
Second Rise
Let the shaped doughnuts rest for 30β40 minutes until puffy.
Fry
Heat oil over medium heat.
Fry doughnuts for about 1β2 minutes per side until golden brown.
Remove and place on paper towels.
Decorate
While warm:
Dust with powdered sugar
Roll in cinnamon sugar
Or dip in glaze/chocolate
Simple Glaze (Optional)
Mix:
1 cup powdered sugar
2β3 tablespoons milk
Β½ teaspoon vanilla
Dip warm doughnuts into the glaze and let set.
Tips for Perfect Doughnuts
Milk should be warm, not hot.
Donβt overcrowd the pan while frying.
Fry on medium heat so the inside cooks properly.
Best enjoyed fresh and warm.
